PROJECT SCOPE

The project involves demolition of traffic islands and medians, construction of temporary pavements, installing span wires and temporary traffic lights at the intersection past the bridge, removal and replacement of the existing traffic system, installing temporary barriers, full depth pavement reconstruction on the approaches to the bridge substructure, demolition and subsequent reconstruction of abutments, wing walls, and pier caps, repairing pier columns, removing and replacing steel superstructure, deck formwork, pouring of latex-modified concrete, removal of overhang brackets, demolishing existing bridge deck and forming a new concrete deck with new parapets, medians, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and pavement, milling, asphalt overlay on the entire section that sat under the bridge, and maintenance of traffic.

The project involves maintaining four lanes on Maryland Route 193 (two in each direction), maintaining all lanes on Interstate 495, installing a temporary traffic signal at Interstate 495 exit ramp that leads from the outer loop to eastbound Maryland Route 193, replacing superstructure and rehabilitating substructure, cleaning and painting the new structural steel, and reconstructing/resurfacing approach roadways on Maryland Route 193, Interstate 495, and interchange ramps.
